Healthy relationships should allow you to be yourself.

Whether you are dating for the first time or have been in a relationship for a while, you deserve to feel safe, respected, valued, and heard.

You have the right to maintain your own identity, friendships, interests, and goals. You have the right to express your feelings and opinions, even when your partner disagrees. You have the right to change your mind, make your own decisions, and choose where you go and what you do.

You have the right to set boundaries.

You have the right to say no to physical contact, sexual activity, or anything else that makes you uncomfortable. A partner should never pressure, threaten, embarrass, or frighten you into doing something you do not want to do.

You also have the right to pursue your dreams and live without fear of your partner.

And you always have the right to end a relationship.

Healthy relationships are based on mutual respect—not control. If you have questions about something happening in your relationship or a friend's relationship, C.A.R.A. is here to provide information and support.

Know your rights in a relationship. Download our full Dating Bill of Rights resource for a clear, easy-to-reference guide to healthy boundaries, respect, independence, and personal choice.
