If you are thinking about leaving an abusive relationship, you deserve support while deciding what comes next.
Leaving can be complicated. It may involve concerns about children, housing, finances, transportation, pets, work, medications, important documents, or simply where you will go. For some survivors, the period surrounding separation can also bring increased safety concerns.
That is why planning ahead, when possible, can be helpful.
A safety plan might include identifying somewhere safe to go, keeping important phone numbers available, considering transportation, gathering essential documents, medications, keys, or belongings, and identifying people you trust. What is appropriate for one person may not be right for another.
You also do not have to leave before asking for help. You can speak with C.A.R.A. while you are still in the relationship, while you are considering your options, or after you have left.
There is no single timeline that every survivor must follow. You know your situation best. C.A.R.A. can help you explore your choices, think through safety concerns, and take your next step at a pace that feels right for you.
